Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ’s

1. Is a Newborn Care Specialist Another Term for a Night Nanny?

Many times the terms Newborn Care Specialist and Night Nanny are used interchangeably. However, think of it this way, a Newborn Care Specialist is more of an educator for the parents whereas a Night Nanny is more of a support person. Although there is currently no official certification for the Newborn Care Specialist industry, a NCS will have specialized knowledge and training for a newborn’s development including feeding, sleep training, lactation support and educating parents about their newborn. A Night Nanny will take care of an infant overnight, usually at the direction of the parent to ensure the baby’s safety so the parents can focus on getting sleep at night.

2. Are all Newborn Care Specialists trained to use the same methods?

No. We work hard to match parents with the Newborn Care Specialist trained in methods and philosophies that best matches the parents’ practices. Even though all of our NCS are extremely experienced, they will always take direction from parents. However, we have found that many parents rely heavily upon the guidance and expertise of our NCS.

3. What if my baby is born before my due date?

No problem! We know that babies rarely come on their estimated due date, so we work with parents to choose a start date that makes sense based on their Obstetrician’s advice. We will be as possible based on the NCS’s availability.

4. How long should I work with a Newborn Care Specialist?

We suggest anywhere from 6 weeks to 24 weeks (6 months). Our goal is for our parents to feel comfortable and confident caring for their newborn.

5. Is a Newborn Care Specialist only for new parents?

No! We’ve even had families hire a Newborn Care Specialist to help sleep train their three-year-old and for a variety of other young child-related issues.

6. Do I pay my Newborn Care Specialist directly?

Yes, you are their employer. We will work with you if you need help setting up payroll arrangements.

7. How do I handle taxes for my Newborn Care Specialist?

We can introduce you to our expert payroll partner, HomeWork Solutions. They can answer any tax-related questions and/or set up a proper deduction and withholding plan.
