Interviewing an in-home caregiver is so different than a typical job interview. Not only will you want to hear about her\/his experience, you will want to know about their childcare knowledge and personality. Your relationship with your nanny is as important as the nanny\u2019s relationship with your children. We encourage you to keep questions open ended and see how comfortable you are with the responses. Over the years, we have developed a healthy list of interview questions that we provide to each of the families we work with, along with other valuable nanny employer information. Below are some of our favorites!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Work related questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Why do you want to be a nanny?<\/li>\n<li>What child care jobs have you held? Tell me about what you did. (Another question that can aid your discovery is, \u201cDescribe your last employers and tell me what you liked and disliked about them.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>What do you consider your strengths as a nanny? Have you ever had to handle an emergency? If so, what happened and what action did you take?<\/li>\n<li>What would you do if the child got sick and had a fever?<\/li>\n<li>What activities would you do with the child(ren) during the day (describe a typical day)?<\/li>\n<li>Ask some hypothetical questions about your family in particular, such as:\n<ul>\n<li>My two year-old simply won\u2019t go down for his nap and you know he\u2019s ready. How are you going to handle it?<\/li>\n<li>My baby is colicky and hasn\u2019t stopped crying since you arrived three hours ago. What will you do to calm her?<\/li>\n<li>What would you prepare for (breakfast, lunch and\/or dinner) for a child the age of X?<\/li>\n<li>What do you believe is an appropriate snack for a child the age of X?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Personal\/Lifestyle Questions<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do you have any children of your own? If so, how old are they? What are they doing now? Do you have child care?<\/li>\n<li>Do you swim?
