Lessons from Two Nanny Interviews Back to Back

We wanted to share some valuable feedback we recently received from a family after conducting two back-to-back phone interviews with prospective nannies. Both candidates had strong resumes with relevant experience and seemed like great fits on paper. The mother was genuinely excited to connect with each of them and learn more about their backgrounds.

Here’s what the family had to say:

Candidate A:

“She was amazing! She came to the interview clearly prepared and had taken the time to thoughtfully review our job description. She understood our family’s needs and was able to speak directly to her relevant experience. We felt she was genuinely interested in our family and aligned with what we are looking for.”

Candidate B:

“We won’t be moving forward with her. She seemed like a nice person with strong references and relevant experience, but she wasn’t very engaging during the call. She didn’t ask questions about our family and seemed unfamiliar with our needs- asking about our schedule and the ages of our children, both of which were clearly outlined in the job description.”

What This Means for You

As this feedback shows, preparation makes all the difference. Both candidates were qualified, but only one advanced to the next step, because she took the time to understand the family’s needs, asked thoughtful questions, and expressed genuine interest in working with their family.

At Mom’s Best Friend, we proudly represent each of you as professional and experienced Nannies. Once a family requests an interview, the opportunity is yours to earn their trust and, ideally, secure an offer.
