Tools like ChatGPT and other writing assistants have become a part of our daily lives. We get it, they’re fantastic at making our writing sound polished, confident, and professional, which is tempting when you’re crafting or updating your nanny profile. It’s easy to see why so many people are using them to make their words flow beautifully.
But here’s a word of friendly caution: while these tools can perfect your sentences, they can sometimes take your personality away.
We’ve started to notice a trend among applicants: many profiles are beginning to sound identical. The grammar is flawless, the tone is pleasant, but the genuine warmth and individuality that make each nanny special are missing. When everyone uses the same tools in the same way, families struggle to see the real you. They know you’re “experienced, dependable, and passionate,” but they don’t get a feel for your humor, your unique approach to challenges, or the sound of your voice.
Your profile is a chance to show them who you are, not a generic, polished version an app thinks they want to see.
Think about what makes you stand out when you walk into a room.
Your profile should highlight the unique qualities families are truly searching for. Maybe you’re the kind of caregiver who brings creativity into every activity. Maybe your strength is your calm nature during a stressful transition, your ability to organize the busiest schedules, or the natural connection you form with shy children.
Instead of just listing traits (“I am patient and reliable”), describe how your patience has made a genuine difference in a child’s day, how you successfully helped a child manage a big emotion, or how you keep a hectic morning running like a well-oiled machine. Those little moments make your profile feel alive and trustworthy.
If you use AI tools to organize your thoughts or tidy up grammar, that’s absolutely fine, just make sure you add ‘you’ back in afterward!
Read your profile out loud and ask yourself, “Does this sound like me? Is this how I’d talk to a parent?” If it doesn’t, take a few minutes to rewrite a line or two in your own, genuine words. Families aren’t looking for robotic perfection; they’re looking for someone who feels honest, relatable, and ready to become a trusted part of their home.
