One of our favorite things to receive are responses to the nanny, family assistant, and client family check-ins. We do this about a month into the placement, and then again at 10-12 months post-placement. This is when we know why we love working at Mom’s Best Friend: the incredibly happy matches.
The lives of our families are transformed by an incredible nanny or family assistant, and they are beaming. Conversely, the nannies and family assistants are immensely grateful for their employer, who clearly values them. This is the beauty of matching experienced, professional, and caring candidates with a family who has been educated about what it means to be an excellent nanny employer.
Why are families so happy?
- Their children are clearly loved, safe, and their nannies are fully present. Beyond noticing their bond, parents mention how kind and joyful their nannies are, that they treat the children like their own, and that their children talk about them over the weekend and on evenings as well. Parents can focus on their careers and outside responsibilities, knowing their children are secure and adored.
- Nannies are bringing in education and creativity. They are building children’s independence and self-confidence. This might be through crafts, preparing their child for a new or scary situation, facilitating enriching activities, or teaching them new skills.
- Nannies and family assistants are helping to create a predictable routine and schedule, creating stability and trust.
- Their nanny or family assistant anticipates needs and meets them before they are ever asked. They value the parents as well, and look for opportunities to make their lives easier. It might also look like staying on top of the household so the parents get more quality time with their children. This makes our families be even better parents.
Why are nannies so happy?
- Families see their nanny as an additional asset to their children’s lives, not as a threat to them as a parent. They know that more love, and an additional role model only benefits their children, so they treat them like family, versus an employee (with boundaries, of course). They value their input and welcome collaboration in the best interest of the children.
- Nannies and family assistants are trusted and given freedom and autonomy to do what they do best. They are treated as true professionals, which they deserve.
- Nannies and family assistants build special bonds with the children that often last a lifetime.
- Nannies and family assistants are respected, shown gratitude, and rewarded. While financial rewards are great, our candidates know that the way they are treated in everyday interactions is far more important.
In the best of circumstances, the cycle of happiness between the two makes both parties want to keep giving and appreciating, rather than pulling back. Similar to advice I have heard for romantic partnerships, if both parties strive to give 60% (not 50%), everyone is winning.
Now, we wouldn’t be doing anyone justice if we didn’t admit that one-sided situations do occur, but those are truly the exception.
